The Utility of History of Economic Thought:
On this topic, Jan Schnellenbach (Cottbus, Germany) interviewed Rüdiger Bachmann (Notre Dame, USA) and Stefan Kolev (Zwickau, Germany) on March 23, 2021, in a public event within our Spotlight format: How much do students of economics need to know about the roots of their discipline in order to understand how current methodological foundations came into existence? Does reading the works of Smith, Schumpeter or Marx improve the research that economists are doing today? Or should junior researchers primarily be interested in what they find in the ten most recent volumes of the top five journals?
