NOUS Spotlight Wide Beam, March 23, 2021 – Rudi Bachmann, Stefan Kolev and Jan Schnellenbach: The utility of the History of Economic Thought

23. March 2021 @ 18:30 - 19:30 CET

How much do students of economics need to know about the roots of their discipline in order to understand how current methodological foundations came into existence? Does reading the works of Smith, Schumpeter, or Marx improve the research that economists are doing today? Or should junior researchers primarily be interested in what they find in the ten most recent volumes of the top 5 journals? And if we want to make students more aware of the history of economics, how do we fit this into the already crowded curricula?
These questions and more will be debated in a special NOUS Open Spotlight event on March 23, 2021, beginning at 18.30h Berlin time (1.30 pm New York time) with Rudi Bachmann (Stepan Family College Professor of Economics, University of Notre Dame, USA) and Stefan Kolev (Professor of Economic Policy, University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, Germany). The event will be moderated by Jan Schnellenbach (Professor of Microeconomics, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, Germany).

NOUS Wide Beam events are part of the greater NOUS Spotlight family, a series of Zoom meetings for scholarly discussion, organized by the international Network for Constitutional Economics and Social Philosophy (NOUS). NOUS Wide Beam events are open to the public. To obtain the Zoom link, please register here ahead of time.-

(Please note: The meeting will be recorded, and you will be required to have your cameras on.)
