NOUS Spotlight, April 25, 2023 – Tim Krieger: Foreshadowing Mars: Religiosity, solar eclipses, and pre-Enlightenment warfare
25. April 2023 @ 18:00 - 19:00 CEST

NOUS Spotlight is an ongoing series of brief, focused Zoom meetings for scholarly discussion. In April, Tim Krieger (University of Freiburg, Germany) will present the paper “Foreshadowing Mars: Religiosity, solar eclipses, and pre-Enlightenment warfare” co-authored with Luke Barber and Michael Jetter. They analyze whether religiosity has an impact on a society’s readiness to go to attack war. The talk will be moderated by Karen Horn (University of Erfurt, Germany).

Each of the meetings begins with one scholar presenting some piece or aspect of his work in a short, max. 15-minute introduction. After that, there is time for questions and discussion within the group, under the guidance of a moderator. NOUS Spotlight is directed at a scholarly public. Its aim is to foster interdisciplinary international discourse: We want to share and discuss what we are currently working on. We cover a very wide range of fascinating topics.
